Public Health Disparities in Southern Illinois - Term Project
August 2012 - December 2012
Course research project for Public Health Disparities and Minorities course at UIC.
- Research of socio-cultural and economic determinants, as well as prevalence and incidence of diseases in minorities related to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease
- Research of Southern Illinois history and migration patterns, as well as new trends in black and hispanic migration patterns being recognized
- Collection, conversion and analysis of data from Census, historical census (1870's +), NHIS, Illinois DPH, and other sources of socioeconomic and public health data
- Analysis of driving distances to health centers by minority type, and potential impact to health, as well as gauging demand for services in the context of new policy (Patient Protection Affordable Care Act)
